Annual Education Report

Henry Ford Academy, established in 1997, was conceived, developed, and implemented in cooperation with Ford Motor Company and The Henry Ford, and chartered by Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency. It is a college prep high school (grades 9-12) located inside Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village and surrounded by the campus of Ford Motor Company. Students come from districts within Wayne County, as well as private, parochial, and home schools. This model partnership focuses some of the best thinking from the business, non-profit, and public education worlds toward the common goal of building a school that prepares students for life in the 21st century.

Henry Ford Learning Institute has successfully launched three other schools, based on the Henry Ford Academy model, in Detroit, Chicago, and San Antonio as part of the Henry Ford Academy Network of Schools. Henry Ford Academy Network of Schools engage students and prepares them for the future through strong academics, a college-going culture, career exploration, and real-world experiences that focus on innovation and creativity.

One of the strengths of the Henry Ford Academy model has been its success in providing learning experiences that support students and teachers making meaningful and tangible connections between what they learn in school with what they value in the world beyond classroom walls through Design Challenges. Design Challenges teach students a process to solve problems through design thinking, a problem solving strategy developed by Henry Ford Learning Institute in partnership with Stanford University's Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (the d.school).

Henry Ford Academy has been successful in increasing high school graduation rates and college enrollment rates where 100% of the graduating seniors are accepted to colleges and universities each year. Graduates will demonstrate a readiness to thrive as a contributing member of the 21st global community by meeting expectations for high standards of personal mastery in each of the Five Developmental Areas: Academic Content, Technology, Communication, Thinking and Learning, and Personal Development.
